Keeping Your Readers Constantly Engaged

You understand that importance of keeping your content coming. However, are you hitting the mark every time when it comes to the quality of your content and that content’s ability to engage your readers every time you post?

Getting and keeping your readers’ attention
Of course, writing content is easy; however, writing compelling, engaging content is a bit more challenging at times. In fact, it even goes that. Not only do you need to write compelling engaging content but you need to continually write that quality of content so that your readers keep coming back to you to read more and more.

There is nothing worse than being bored
The truth is that there is a lot of content online that absolutely bores other people. It is rarely a problem for the reader to start reading any particular content. However, the challenge is in getting the reader to read all the way to the end of that piece of content.

Choosing the right topic might be difficult. Well, try writing about your target audience members. Discuss what they need and want and explain exactly how you are planning to solve their problems. If you do that, your readers will be intrigued by what you are saying. Obviously, those topics will be of interest to them because they are actually driven by them. It is critical that you come up with a solution to their problems before you share any content with them. In your writing, you will tell them exactly (step by step, if it is appropriate) how you would go about solving their problem(s). That will probably have a tremendously positive impact on them.

Enjoy what you are writing
If you have any hope of enticing your readers, you will have to make the content entertaining. That means that you will have to have fun writing it. Intermingling interesting bits of information will go a long way with your readers. You can be serious and passionate about your brand and about what you represent but still write exciting content at the same time. It will be more fun for you to write and more fun for your readers to read. In fact, there is no doubt that it will weigh heavily in the readers’ decision to either continue reading or just abandon your content for something that they think may be more exciting.

Of course, at the heart of your writing (all of your writing) is the human connection. Make sure that you relate to your readers on a human/emotional level. If your writing strikes a chord with them, they will want to interact with you. It is that simple. Remember to put some humor into your writing. Humor is very powerful, as long as it is used appropriately.

Make your writing sing
Your content needs to flow easily and it needs to have a meaningful message. Remember to keep your writing clear and concise. Long-winded content is generally not met with favorably by most people. Short paragraphs are effective usually. Also, try to avoid long, run-on sentences whenever possible.

You want to keep your readers engaged and enticed and that will work well for you. If your content is an easy read for your readers, they will read every word and come back for more. Although you have one voice when you write (or, at least, you should), there is nothing wrong with presenting your ideas in a variety of ways in order to keep it interesting for the reader.

Keep your message simple
Part of the idea of writing clear content is the concept that you want the reader get really get what you are talking about and you don’t want him or her to have to work hard to figure out what you are trying to say. Make sure that your writing focuses on what is important and tell your story in a way that resonates with the reader.

Through your writing, you are building trust and credibility between you and your readers. The reason why you are sharing whatever content you have written should be abundantly clear to the reader. Don’t lose sight of the reader’s needs and don’t lose the context.

Clearly express the positives
When it comes to your writing, whatever you are discussing, make sure that it has a positive spin to it. Always write with WIIFM? (What’s In It For Me?) in mind. In other words, your purpose is to solve the problems of the other person. No matter how amazing you and your business are, if you are not able to put the other person’s needs and wants above your own, you won’t ultimately be able to do business with that person. It is important for you to remember that if you take care of the other person, your needs will be met at the same time.

Conclusion
It is critical to your success as a business owner (or employee) that you keep your readers engaged with your content. The difficult part of that is figuring out how to do that. However, if you work at it, it will start to become easier and easier. Remember that most readers will be willing to start to read whatever you have posted but the trick is getting them to finish what you have written and come back for more.

In addition to the written word, you may also wish to consider sharing other types of content, such as videos, graphic images, etc, which will keep your readers engaged. Of course, after that, if you want to take your relationship to the next level, you will have to spend some time together in person as well.
